Nissan pays for scheduled maintenance on the Murano for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Nissan will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mazda doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the CX-50.

There are almost 2 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Mazda dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Murano’s warranty.

The Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 54 more horsepower (241 vs. 187) and 75 lbs.-ft. more torque (260 vs. 185) than the CX-50’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder. The Murano’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 22 more horsepower (241 vs. 219) and 97 lbs.-ft. more torque (260 vs. 163) than the CX-50’s optional 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Murano uses regular unleaded gasoline. The CX-50 with the 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder engine requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Murano has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-50 Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (18.7 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Murano has 2.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the CX-50’s standard fuel tank (18.7 vs. 15.9 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Nissan Murano, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the CX-50.

The Murano’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the CX-50 are solid, not vented.

The Murano’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CX-50’s standard 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Murano has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the CX-50.

The Murano has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The CX-50 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For superior ride and handling, the Nissan Murano has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Mazda CX-50 has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Murano has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Murano flat and controlled during cornering. The CX-50’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Murano is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the CX-50.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Murano to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CX-50 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Murano’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Mazda only offers heated mirrors on the CX-50 Preferred/Premium/Turbo.

The Murano Platinum has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the CX-50.

The Murano is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The CX-50 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
